Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of Anointing is intended by the Church to be celebrated by the whole community, surrounding those in need of healing with loving attention and prayers.
It is especially fitting that it be celebrated within the context of the Eucharist, and Holy Family does so annually at a Mass of Anointing.
Homebound parishioners and those living in extended-care facilities, who are visited on a weekly basis by a communion minister, are scheduled to receive the Sacrament of Anointing at least once a year.
However, the celebration of the sacrament is not reserved solely for those who are experiencing physical illness, old age or for those who are near death.

Instead, the sacrament is also intended to heal the tensions, fears and anxieties that affect the mind and, consequently, the body as well. Persons suffering from addictions, psychological disorders, anxiety before serious surgery, debilitating fears for self or family, anguish over a loved one dying or other similar circumstances may request the healing touch of Jesus in the Sacrament of Anointing.
The celebration of this Sacrament proclaims that all of us, as a community of faith, accept the limitations of our humanity and place our lives in Jesus' hands.
If you would like to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, or if you would like to make arrangements for a member of your family to be anointed, please contact the parish office.
